Many webmasters always thinks that how can they make their website reach the top 10 position. I know many of you will be saying that just do SEO and you will have your site in the top 10 and I completely agree with them. Besides strategies, its really important to know what order of steps you should take while doing SEO for your site.

1. Research The Keywords: The first step you must take is to research the keywords related to your niche.
2. Build the Content: After researching the keywords, you need to apply them in form of content. While building the content, you need to know what your users are looking for and use the keywords with a good density in the content.
3. Adding Meta Tags: Although Google know says that they are giving less preference to meta tags but they are giving it at least some so why to leave it. Put the keywords relevant to your content and its short summary in keywords and description meta tags.
4. Submitting to Social Networking sites: In this Web 2.0 world, social networking sites such as Digg, Propeller etc. have gained real importance in the SEO world. They have proved to be a real big source of quality traffic for thousands of websites. Moreover, incoming links from social bookmarking websites a rated a bit higher then the normal links as they are coming from high PR websites, thus helping you gain Search Engine rankings.
5. Start Link Building: Link Building is the most important SEO strategy after content building. Your content is ready but you now have to make your content popular and this can be done only through link building. Article directories, Blogs, Press Releases etc. have been an important part of link building strategies and so should be yours.
