Quality Incoming Links - Need and Importance

You have optimized your website using the conventional SEO techniques such as adding meta tags, optimizing your keywords etc. but you still can't find your site in the Top 10 lists of search engines for your keywords. Ask any SEO expert and he will say just one thing and I quote "Your Site's Lacks Quality Incoming Links".

There are two categories of Links for any website - Incoming and Outgoing. As the names says it all, Incoming Links are the links pointing to your website from other websites and Outgoing Links are the links that your website has to other relevant websites. So, what matters are the Incoming Links for getting your site ranked high in search engines.

Search Engines considers Incoming Links as votes for your website. Every link counts itself as a vote for your website for the keyword that is their in the Anchor Text of the Incoming Links. For example, if a site is linking to Bollyball with a link "Internet Tips", then it will be counted as one vote for Bollyball for the keywords Internet Tips. The more you get other sites link to your site with a particular keyword, better will be your rankings for that keyword.

Now, moving onto the word "Quality". Mere getting Incoming Links is just not the answer for your site rankings, what matters is getting "Quality Incoming Links". You might get your website hundred thousands of Incoming Links resulting your site being penalized for excessive Low Quality Incoming Links. Google and other search engines looks for Quality Incoming Links. Quality has been interpreted in a number of ways by SEO. Three things that defines the Quality of Incoming Links in my view and which most of the SEO experts have agreed to are as follows:

  1. Quality is also given by the relevancy of the Anchor Text of the Incoming Link to the page it is linking to.
  2. Incoming Links from a site containing contents relevant to your site are considered as Quality Links.
  3. Incoming Links from websites having high Page Ranks(PR) are considered as Quality Incoming Links by the search engines. Some SEO experts thinks that if you could get a website having PR higher than 7 goes as Quality Incoming Links disregard of the above two factors.

So, how to get Incoming Links? The best thing you can do to get a large number of Incoming Links is writing good quality contents on your website or providing some great tools to your users which will attract other webmasters to blog about your site and hence link to it. However, their other methods of building Incoming Links to your website which I will be surely covering in my later posts.
