Intel's Nehalem - An Octo Core Processor
Gigahertz wars have almost came to an end but this end has marked the beginning of Core Wars between Intel and AMD. Intel's CEO Paul Otellini recently revealed Intel's new micro-architecture code-named Nehalem. Processors based upon Nehalem architecture can feature more than 8 cores with each core comprising of two logical processors giving it the power to run 16 threads simultaneously. Intel has already started working on the quad core Nehalem architecture based processor which will be comprising of a whooping 731 million transistors. Besides this, Nehalem based processors will also feature the new chip to chip interconnect named as Quick Connect.
According to Otellini, first Nehalem based processor, which is also code-named as Nehalem, might hit the market in the second half of 2008. He claimed that Nehalem based quad core processor has already worked successfully with Windows XP and Mac OS X. If we go on with his words, then it be too far when we will see the Octo Core Processor in the market.
