Make shortcuts for Yahoo Search

Yahoo has always been facing tough competition from Google and this is mainly because Google provides the users a great number of shortcuts that they can employ so that they can search over the internet easily and effectively.

Yahoo thinking in a different way has a Yahoo Open Shortcut page where registered Yahoo users can make any shortcut pointing to any website or a search term. You just have to specify the name of the shortcut and tell Yahoo the action you want to have when that shortcut is used in your Yahoo searches. For example, if you define a shortcut with a name "bolly" so that when ever this shortcut is called in Yahoo searches, the site bollyball.com gets opened. The syntax for writing a shortcut is simple. Just add an "!" ( exclamation mark ) and  type in the name of the shortcut. You will be directed to the site url you provided at the time of making the shortcut. For example:

!bolly - Transfers you to bollyball.com

Besides this, there are many inbuilt shortcuts for you directing you to some of the world's most popular sites such as Amazon, Ebay, Flickr and many more.

You can also use Yahoo Shortcuts for searching a keyword within a site. Just follow the steps given there and enjoy using the shortcuts. Some more examples are given below, just give them a try:

  1. !ebay shoes: Search eBay for shoes, instantly (perhaps this is NOT a good one for those of us who already have a bit of a shopping issue?).
  2. !mail websearch@yahoo.com: Instantly compose an email within Yahoo Mail to someone.
  3. !wsf: Searches "weather san francisco" on Yahoo.
  4. !my:Navigate to your My Yahoo page.
